Friday 3/25/11: going home this afternoon!
7:30 AM: talking yet better this morning, and trying out tongue-twister word exercises from a website sent by a good friend. Nick and Ely visited before Nick took Ely off to Sea-Tac for her 11 AM flight home.
We'll loan you our copies of "Fox in Sox" and "Hop on Pop" unless you've still got copies from your own kids--that and maybe Jack Prelutsky's "It's Raining Pigs and Noodles." Hilarity reigns when kids or adults read these aloud--a great combination of speech therapy and the best therapy of all--laughter!
Meg Holmes was diagnosed with brain cancer on Dec. 12, 2009. Andrew Taylor, her husband, is using this blog to tell friends what's going on. She had brain surgery at Swedish Hospital, Cherry Hill, in Seattle completed a one year clinical trial and enjoyed a very active symptom-free 15 months.
An MRI in early March 2011 showed tumor progression. Meg had a second brain surgery, and a couple more surgeries to try to help the surgical incision heal. Further chemotherapy and antibody treatments didn't really help, and the tumor continued to grow.
In July she lost the use of her left side, took to a wheelchair, and started hospice care in early August. She died peacefully on October 1st, 2011, surrounded by her brother, sister, son, daughter and husband.
